Guys, this might sound stupid, but what the hell, If I dont ask I wont know. How in the world do you exit the flight deck of an NG, without stepping on the avionics bay? I mean, judging from pic on airliners.net there is no room at all! s there that much travel in the crewseats? what about f the FO? not much room between the back of seat and rear bulkhead. Ive been on the deck of a B722 from KPVD-KOQU for the airshow in 02' (my cousins an FE B722) lots more room, obviously for FE station. Anyhow, If any of you boeing guys would care to shed light on this, it would be appreciated.
Gotta go, 5 cu. yards of crushed stone sitting in my driveway for the new sim area, Dig in!!
Sincerely, Pete |

Hey Pete,
The 737 crew seats also slide side to side so that the Capt. or F/O can shimmy between the seat and pedestal to get in. Hope that helps...Steve |

Yeah, I may have mentioned some about this when I posted back in June about my 30 minutes up front in a 737NG owned by the USN.
I wondered the same too. The seat is slid back and they are on what's called "J" Rails, which means that when you slide the seat back, it automatically slides over to the left or right, depending on if youre in the Captain's or FO's side, respectively. The seats also have a spring type mech. under your calves where the yoke column cut out is, that allows your legs to reach the rudder pedals more effectively. Very neat feature of the seat! I will build that into my seats if I have to build them.
BTW, the handle to slide the seat on the NG is on the side next to the Center Pedestal, not up front like a car's adjustment lever. Any youre right...there's not a whole lot of room between the seat and the back wall right behind the seat. Many people dont know, but there's actually two jumpseat areas on a 737. One is the seat that is like a shelf behind the Captain side, but also there' one that pulls out and unfolds from the wall behind the FO. I got some video of someone pulling it out and unfolding/folding it up that I have planned to post, not sure who would host the file 'cause Im sure it will be big.
If anything I've said could be further elaborated on or corrected, please feel free from any NG drivers out there like Markus, etc. _________________ Eric Tomlin
