Got them today, latest FDS

Heavy all metal feel, 12V high intensity LED, and actually "better" than the real ones I had before, which needed heavy wiring and were a major source of heat (12V automotive bulbs).
Happy camper

(My camera does not render their exact Boeing grey color)

Follow up on the Map Lights:

Get the eyebrow off and drill a neat hole with a hole saw and make a small indent (dremmel) for the wire
Image

Position the supplied backplate and drill the eyebrow through the four holes around the opening
(use a mini drill first as a template, as the backplate holes are threaded, then use a bigger one)

Image
Fasten the map light

Plan your switches position and wiring + dimmer if you use one.
I opted for an Overhead switch plate as a personal choice

Image

Made the light-plate from an old 747 Ebay plate, resized and repainted.
Could be better but good enough for the time being ..lol

First test :The intensity is perfect without dimmer (Too bright is the picture only)

I will add orange lenses which helps for contrast.

Happy camper.

Orange lens

cut out with 2 hole saws
Add a piece of orange film

Set in place with small dabs of doubleside tape so that it can be removed.

Looks good Jack

Was it not possible to unscrew the end of the light at the lense and put the film on the inside of the glass lense?

Was of course my first idea.
I did not manage to do it and breaking something was not on my list.
This lens takes no more than ten minutes to build, and can be removed at will.
An orange filter is really good at increasing the print contrast and readability.

The greatest asset of these map-lights, beyond their good looks and quality, is the fact that they run with AGW 20-22 wiring and emit zero heat.

pedestal

Post by dreambird »

Guy

Even if it looks like a simple box, the pedestal is not an easy one when it comes to the top part where everything is a very tight fit between the three rows of modules, and more so if you do not use dzus rails with dzus compatible hardware. Clearances are within a few millimeters and can be extremely challenging.
From experience I would instead strongly suggest using a real unit if you can find one, or the FDS base.

As you are buying a PRO-MX-DSTD, talk to Peter about the pedestal and he will guide you better than I can do.

Besides dimensions are widely available on the net:

back end lighting

Post by jackpilot »

Added two Wemac swivel lights for the back wall , lighting up the breaker panels.
High load 24v bulbs were replaced by 12v led equivalents which emit no heat and sip only a few electrons!

Thank you.

The sim is now due for schedueled maintenance in prep for a major avionics upgrade to SimA and new MX series MCP

Will report on that in due time.

I take my time revisiting wiring and interfacing new panels that were not.
Having fun as usual.
