Hey all, I got a couple of short LED strips in my MIP lighting package. From what I can tell, they go under the glare wings where the recesses are. Do you all just mount them right in the middle of the recess? I haven't been able to find any close up pictures showing those lights so I'm at a bit of a loss as to how they should go in.

There is a cutout in the Glare outboard Moulded cover bottom plates.
You should be lighting up the LED strips and holding in place to locate that "Sweet spot" that gets light down onto the MIP in that area.
we mount the LED strips on the ridge that is closest to you.
Really just needs a quick test before final mounting Tony.

I still haven't mounted my glare wing lighting, but I'm in no hurry. I'll get to that.

But I thought the following real-world reference picture might be helpful for those wondering how to place some of the lights.

Note the MCP light strip does not go all the way to the ends above the EFIS' like I see so many simmers do. Not that it matters much. It's personal preference.

Here's a poor quality shot from a 737NG I managed to get a few minutes in during maintenance. Wish I had more time to document more thoroughly.

If anyone has any more detailed shots I'd love to see them.

Based on that last shot, I am thinking about picking up an LED channel housing to mount the LED's in. Something like what's on this page:

Some look pretty nice...rectangular channels with translucent covers, somewhat close to what the real ones use. Keeps the LEDs from being exposed and tucks them in nice and neat.

Thoughts?

Nice detail, not visible though unless you crawl on the floor for some repair.
I bookmarked the page nevertheless.

Very Happy
