Hi guys

I have two avionics pcs (server and client). I use Active Sky Next as my weather engine, and the radar.bin file is generated on the avionics SERVER pc. The FO ND/PDF is connected to my server pc, and the CAP ND/PFD to the client pc. In the display.ini file of both ND's, I point the WX folder in the server pc. However, I don't get any WX images on the CAP ND. On the FO ND is works ok.

Does anyone have a similar configuration and managed to make this work ? Are there any restrictions in the redar.bin file regarding networked pcs ?

Thanks

Eduardo

Hi,

Here are the steps I found, this is a C/P. This is not my work, I hope it helps.

This is the way I usually set it up :

PC1 = FS
PC2 = Avionics

Setting up the File Sharing

Avionics PC
1) Check File Sharing is enabled and Setup Correctly

Goto the Network and Sharing Center
Select : Change Advanced Sharing Settings (on the left)
Scroll down and ensure that :
File and Print Sharing is Enabled
Password Protected Sharing is OFF
Save Changes

2) Create new folder \Sim-Avionics\WX

3) Share \Sim-Avionics
There are a few was of doing this. I usually :

right-click on the \Sim-Avionics folder.
Select Share.
Enter : Everyone
Add
Set permission Level to Read/Write
Share

FS PC
1) Test you have access to the Share

Open File Explorer
Expand : Network
Select your Avionics PC
You should see a shared folder called Sim-Avionics
Double Click into this folder, Double click into \WX
If this works then your FS computer has access to this shared folder.

Click on the Address bar at the top.
Highlight and copy to the clipboard. (CTRL+C)

2) Edit :<FS>\Modules\FSUIPC4.ini
Add line to FSUIPC4.ini

[General]
ASNwxRadarPath=\\[AVIONICS-PC]\Sim-Avionics\WX\radar.bin

Paste in the address that you just copied to the clipboard (CTRL+V).
The name [AVIONICS-PC] should be set to whatever your avionics PC is called.
Save

3) Run FSX
4) Run Active Sky Next

5) After starting Active Sky check on your Avionics PC.
You should see \Sim-Avionics\WX\radar.bin

Avionics Config
Finally on you Avionics PC you need to tell the ND's to switch off the built in wxr radar and to use the ASN weather.

1) Edit \CPT ND\CONFIG.ini and \FO ND\CONFIG.ini
Add Lines :

USE_ACTIVE_SKY_NEXT_WXR=1
ACTIVE_SKY_NEXT_RADAR_PATH=C:\Sim-Avionics\WX\

That's it.
ASN builds wxr radar based on cloud precipitation so you will need to position your aircraft in an area with rain clouds present.
You can use the ASN map to find some bad weather.

Hi Michael thanks for your answer !

I did everything the manual says, and the radar.bin file is being generated ok in my Avionics Server PC, and the WX on my CAP ND works fine as well. However, the FO ND is assigned to my Avionics Client PC, and when I point it to the radar.bin file generated on the networked folder in the server pc, I don't get any WX radar images on the FO ND.

Two solutions:

1) Sim-Avionics\WX is shared on your main Avionics computer.
FSUIPC then places the radar.bin into this folder and the FO ND reads the radar.bin from this WX folder.

FSUIPC can only generate a single file so the second ND needs to read the radar.bin from the main Avionics computer.

So your radar path in the CPT ND CONFIG INI should say :
ACTIVE_SKY_NEXT_RADAR_PATH=\\[AVIONICS-PC]\Sim-Avionics\WX\

2) Swap your display around so that both ND's are on the main Avionics computer.
