Backlighting & LEDs......

Post by cwbalmer »

Guys,

I am beginning to look into the backlighting on my 777 MIP and glare shield, and was wondering how people backlit similar panels? Do you use several long lights or individual bulbs for each "section"?

Also, can anyone recommend any places to get some LEDs for items such as the heading indicator etc.?

Any help much appreciated!!!

Thanks
Chris. :D

Backlighting

Post by MatthiasS »

Hi Chris,

I think there are many ways for backlighting. At the moment I am making tests with cold cathode lights as they are used for computer modding. They are not cheap but are quiet bright and have a long lifetime of about 30,000 hours. In addition they are easy to mount and to wire and they stay "cold". Supply voltage is 12 V, they are available as a set including the inverter. The inverter can feed 2 lights.

Hello :D

For my A320 Setup, i decided to go on with the EL sheets. Very suitable for us cockpit builders. Can be cut very easily and applied to any surface. No heating problems. I have a couple of pictures on my web site together with a short application example.

Hope it helps !
